Wearable Cedar

The cedar tree is the foundation of our culture. From building materials, massive house beams, to rope, cooking tools, clothing, and of course our art, cedar and our culture are inextricably woven.

Cedar Bark is so sacred to the 'Namgis that we call it Ada, which means mother. It is still used today as protection from negative energy.

The cedar bark is so important to the 'Namgis that we have Red Cedar Bark ceremonies called ťseka. The bark is also used to make clothing, mats, hats, towels and regalia. The bark is gathered in the spring time after words of thanks have been given to the Creator.
